Guests pay online first
With a card provider taking online payments (Tyro, in Australia), guests pay for pickup and delivery on your page before the order is placed: card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, in the provider's own form. The kitchen only gets orders that are paid. Cash at pickup or at the door is offered only where you turn it on.
Back office Settings How guests pay online
- Pickup and Delivery are set apart: Pay online first (on by default), Cash when they pick it up, Cash at the door, Card or QR at the door.
- Let an unpaid order go after (15 minutes): a guest who doesn't finish paying has ordered nothing.
- At checkout the guest taps Continue to pay, then pays the total your page showed: the server works it out again (offers, codes, surcharges, the delivery fee) and charges only that.
- Paid: the order is placed, marked paid, and comes to the till as any online order, with paid online on it. The tracking page says ✓ Paid · Visa ••0921.
- On the till, its bill shows Paid in full: nothing to collect, at the counter or the door.
Example
A pickup paid online
Mia orders two iced teas, $13, at 12:12. She taps Continue to pay, pays with Apple Pay, and her page opens: Harbour Lane Café is checking your order · ✓ Paid · Visa ••0921. The till shows Online pickup · paid online; Take payment on its bill says Paid in full.
The card was declined
The guest sees Your card was declined: nothing was charged and nothing was ordered. They pay with another card, or in cash where you offer it.
A paid order the restaurant can't make
Decline… it as usual: the whole payment goes back to the guest's card by itself, and their page says so. A guest who cancels while you're still checking it is refunded the same way.
Paid for something the kitchen couldn't make
Give back that dish from Paid bills › Refund…: the card paid online shows Can refund, and the money goes back to it online. The guest doesn't need to be there.
If it goes wrong
"Paying online isn't available right now"
The branch's merchant ID isn't switched on for online payments at the provider, or the connection is off. Check Settings › Payments and cash › Card payments: Online payments ready beside the merchant ID.
