Close a shift
At the end of a shift, count everything in the drawer. Only then does the till show what it should hold, and whether it's over or short.
Till Menu (☰) Shift and drawer Close the shift
- Open Shift and drawer and tap Close the shift.
- Count the drawer: everything in it, by notes and coins or as one amount. Tap Save the count.
- The till shows Expected, Counted and Exact, Over or Short.
- Over or short beyond your restaurant's limit? Write What happened (the owner sees it).
- Optional: type the card terminal's settlement total. The till compares it with the card payments it recorded.
- A connected card provider (Tyro)? Cards · nothing to count: each terminal's total, All confirmed by Tyro, and any payment Tyro hasn't settled with Check again.
- Tap Close the shift and print the report.
Example
Short by a little
Expected {price 1,486.50}, counted {price 1,481.50}: Short 5.00. Priya notes "Gave change for a 10 as 15". The shift report and the back office show it under her name.
Example
The card terminal doesn't match
The terminal's settlement says {price 2,340.00}; the till recorded {price 2,295.00} by card. The till says the terminal shows 45.00 more: a card payment was probably taken on the terminal but marked as cash, or not recorded. Check the day's bills.
Example
One card not confirmed by Tyro
Closing, the till shows Card · Tyro (Counter Tyro) {price 2,450.00} · 38 payments · Not all confirmed and Not confirmed by Tyro · T4 · 46.50 · 9:12 pm. Tap Check again: Tyro had it, it's recorded on T4's bill, and the terminal shows All confirmed by Tyro. Still not confirmed after 10 minutes, it's In Review for a manager.
Can someone see the expected amount before counting?
No. It's a blind close: what the drawer should hold shows only after the count is saved.
What's "Hand in the bag"?
A waiter's phone that takes cash or QR payments at the table opens a cash-bag shift by itself on its first payment: no drawer, and a float of 0. At the end, the waiter counts the bag and taps Hand in the bag; it gets its own Cash bag report.
If it goes wrong
I closed with the wrong count
The count is saved with the shift. Tell a manager: they'll see it under Back office › Shifts with your note, and can sort it out with the next count.
If it goes wrong
"No receipt printer on this till"
The shift closes anyway; print the report from a till with a printer, or see it in the back office.
